I’m Back: Now Get Ready for a Flurry of Activity

My two-week European trek is now but a memory. I’ve now returned to the fray to start breaking down NFL free agency and NFL and MLB trades. Oh, and a bit of entertainment and MLB call-ups along the way. Hell, maybe I’ll get into my trip. Anyway, it’s good to be back with you. Now, […]

Harmon on the Road to End July

Hello, everybody. Like you, I am anxiously awaiting the ratification of a new CBA and the celebration to follow. In the interim, I have stepped away from the computer on a vacation. While traveling the globe, I will be crunching numbers and scrawling down some notes. But, I will have only sporadic Internet access while […]

Phillies DL Switch: Polanco Out, Madson Back

The Phillies activated reliever Ryan Madson from the disabled list on Friday for the weekend series against the Mets. Madson had been sidelined with a hand injury since mid-June. He was recalled following a one-inning rehab outing at Class-A Clearwater. Madson reclaims the closer role for the first-place Phillies. Antonio Bastardo returns to the setup […]

Shaq Joins “Inside The NBA” on TNT

Ever since he was rim-wrecking at LSU, fans and pundits (self included) have been enamored with Shaquille O’Neal. From his turn in “Blue Chips” and assorted films to the rap albums and, well, his dominance of the NBA. You can’t teach height. You can’t teach physicality. Height plus a big posterior to back guys under […]

The Moneyball Film Hits in September: Are You In?

The “Moneyball” hype is starting up again as the film’s release approaches. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane at the head of a strong lineup that includes Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It’s a power trio, for sure, but I have one question. Why doesn’t Hoffman speak in the trailer? Anyway, knowing what you […]

FMC: David Price Makes Lemonade and Signs an Autograph Deal to Get His Share of DJ/3K Cash

David Price inked a deal with Steiner Sports to sign autographed photos and balls in connection with the DJ/3K campaign. Price was the unfortunate victim who served up hit number 3,000 to Derek Jeter and began the whole Christian Lopez debacle. He’s decided to make some lemonade and beef up the 401K by autographing photos […]

Clemens Mistrial: You Didn’t Think It’d Be Easy, Did You?

You didn’t think it was going to just go along quickly without a blip or two, did you? On Thursday morning, Judge Reggie Walton declared a mistrial after prosecutors introduced information from Laurie Pettitte. It was a move cautioned against in pre-trial hearings, a move to play the games “electricity” or “telephone” (Andy told Laurie […]

Did you miss the debut of Adam Carolla’s new show on SPEED? Here’s a look at The Car Show.

With Potter Back in Theaters, a Wish List of Magical Items

As I traverse the vast world that is the Internet, I inevitably come across some non-sports items that give me a chuckle. Well, the arrival of the final “Harry Potter” film brings with it a laundry list of memories, retrospectives and “Best Of” rants. This particular list is the cure-all to all of life’s ills. […]

Sandy Alderson met with reporters and spoke of a July 22nd target for Wright’s return against the Marlins. Wright has missed two months of the season because of a stress fracture in his lower back. In a Sea of Useless Tweets About ESPYs, I Found Gold

After watching the US Women’s victory over France, I set about the rest of my day and took care of some yelling, blogging and myriad other pre-vacation duties. As such, I didn’t see the ESPYs live (I think the replay is taping now). I did log in to check the Twitter scoreboard later in the […]

Ryan Clark Speaks of AFC North “Rivalry”

Following the media circus that rolled into town to cover Ben Roethlisberger in 2010, the Steelers were hoping for a quiet offseason (other than the lockout questions, of course). Early in the day, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison took over the Twitter-verse and Facebook as snippets of his Men’s Journal interview started to surface. As […]

Tony Romo’s Wedding in 3 1/2 Minutes

Because the line between sports and entertainment has been wiped away … you have the staging, the airbrushing of makeup, the wedding, the reception and the drive away. All of it is set to Coldplay’s “Fix You.” When’s the reality show begin? Candice & Tony’s Wedding Trailer from Joe Simon Films on Vimeo.

My Neighborhood Will Make The Nightly News

I was working on the update of my fantasy rankings while contemplating the meaning of life when a story crossed my desk. A bust by the Torrance Police here in Calfornia netted eight arrests and a TON of marijuana. I know that we use the euphemism “ton” a lot, but the police literally recovered more […]

FMC: US Soccer Moves On with Hope Solo a Breakout Star

OK, so the “Man-Crush” tag doesn’t quite fit, but it’s my game. So, here goes. Congratulations to the US Women’s Soccer Team for advancing to the World Cup Final by defeating France by a score of 3-1. There were some anxious moments for the United States following that early goal that put them ahead 1-0. […]

Ted Danson Joins CSI: Will He Bring You Back?

This popped up on the wire Tuesday afternoon. Laurence Fishburne departs the show after two seasons, prompting the need to find another new lead for the lab. Enter Danson. It was a high-profile search as the former ratings beast moves into its next phase. Is it enough to bring it back to the top? Ted […]

James Harrison Leapt Off The Ledge, Rips Roger Goodell

Quotes from a Men’s Journal interview with Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison popped up online Wednesday morning. I can only imagine the reaction at Steelers headquarters when the content was relayed. If you’ve followed Harrison’s career at all, you know that he’s a man who doesn’t mince words. The full interview will be available when […]

On the Comeback Trail: Brad Lidge Pitches at Double-A

Brad Lidge started his rehab assignment on Monday night for Double-A Reading. Lidge retired the side in order and his velocity reached the low-90s. For the time being, Antonio Bastardo remains the closer in Philadelphia while Lidge, Ryan Madson and Jose Contreras are on the mend. Madson will begin his rehabilitation assignment on Wednesday.

I’m Going to Pitch in the All-Star Game

I knew that would grab your attention. Obviously, I haven’t gotten the call as a replacement player. But, if we were another day or two out, it just might come down to lottery tickets. As the countdown clock winds down to the red carpet pre-game festivities, it seems that the “honor” of playing in the […]

How Do You Move Past a Scandal? Hire a School Legend.

A reported emerged from The Columbus Dispatch on Sunday morning that former Ohio State superstar, Super Bowl champion and fantasy hero (if you were in IDP leagues) Mike Vrabel would join the coaching staff. In an offseason replete with scandal, disappointment and the dismissal of head coach Jim Tressel, Buckeyes fans finally got something to […]

What Would You Have Done? The Ball is Returned.

What would you have done? By now, you’re well aware that Derek Jeter collected his 3,000th career hit on Saturday against the Rays. It was the second hit in Jeter’s 5-for-5 performance, a home run off of David Price launched in the third inning. The montages of Jeter’s milestone hits have no doubt been played […]

Horrible Bosses: What Would It Take?

On Friday night, I had the rare occasion to slip out of the house and see a film on its opening night. Normally, new releases slip into the background of my consciousness following that opening weekend. I may slip out to catch a matinee, but most of the time these films don’t reappear on my […]

Derek Jeter Homers for 3,000: What’s the Asking Price?

Jeter, batting out of the leadoff spot, homered in his second at-bat against David Price to reach the hallowed milestone. Jeter singled in the first inning to notch hit 2,999 and wasted no time getting to the finish line. It was his third home run of the season. Now, there had obviously been a lot […]

Mike Lopresti Takes Us to Dayton and a Slice of America

The evening sports wrap here in Los Angeles routinely takes shots at the sea of blue in Dodger Stadium for 2011 home games. Unless most years when they’d be referencing the caps and t-shirts displaying the logo of this once-iconic franchise, this season has been defined by empty seats. That’s not the case in Dayton, […]
