Tiger’s Apology: What Did You Expect?

February 22, 2010 · Leave a Comment

That’s my quick and simple question in response to the blowhard criticisms of Tiger Woods’ statement from Friday. Woods did precisely what we expected on Friday with a couple of twists – his references to Buddhism and the brief sidebar about PEDs. Would people be happier if he’d pulled off a character of Chappellian majesty, jumped up to the microphone and yelled, “I’m rich, B****!” or emerged from behind the curtain with a couple of women on his arm? Would Woods chastising people and telling them of his economic impact on the sport and their lives have been the way to go. Sure,... [Read the full story]

The Hurt Locker and Johnny Bravo: I Got Issues

March 7, 2010 · Leave a Comment

“The Hurt Locker” sat on the shelf for almost an entire week following its arrival from Netflix. I apologize to anybody who experienced a delay in receiving a copy this week, but sometimes work just gets in the way.  And, I just couldn’t get myself in the right mood to pop it in the DVD player. I have to be honest. I just needed to be in the right frame of mind. Ultimately, I gave up on that pursuit and sat down to watch it Saturday night. Hey, the credits had to roll before the 84 hours of Oscar preview shows began on Sunday. I needed to put another check box in my listed “Seen... [Read the full story]

Why Such Negativity On Coverage?

March 2, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Harmon Takes Aim Over the past several weeks, many of my friends and work colleagues have taken their potshots at the majority of sports of the Olympiad. They might roll up for a three-day ski weekend or begrudgingly travel back to what was their childhood home in another state at the holidays. As... [Read the full story]

Say what you will about Chad Ochocinco. Call him brazen, brash, bold, cocky or any of 1,000 descriptors. You cannot deny that the man is entertaining and, ultimately, good for business in the NFL. His mouth gets him in trouble at times, but he’s yet to appear in the blotter other than his fines from the Commissioner. He celebrates his love of the game and of the camera. Ochocinco is unconventional, but he reminds you that this is a game. I understand marketing and branding and the corporate machine that is the NFL. There’s a corporate image to be protected. Keeping sponsors, advertisers... [Read the full story]

Fantasy MVPs: Favre finds success

The 2009 NFL season provided more than a few chills, spills and thrills along the way. We entered the year with grand expectations at tailback, and conventional wisdom kept the draft board running back-heavy in the opening rounds. That age-old strategy just might fall to the wayside in 2010 given the number of pass-happy...
