Hakeem Nicks Breaks His Foot in OTAs: Rookie Reuben Randle Steps In
The Giants drafted Reuben Randle out of LSU this April, and he was expected to work into the rotation and amass those targets vacated by Mario Manningham. On Thursday, those plans changed when it was revealed that Hakeem Nicks sustained a serious foot injury during OTAs. He broke the fifth metatarsal of his right foot and will undergo surgery to insert a screw.
You don’t think that sounds like a big deal? Nicks is expected to miss three months, which would put him on track to rejoin the team for the final throes of training camp. In the interim, Randle (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) steps up opposite Victor Cruz in support of Eli Manning.
Update: I feel compelled to throw the fantasy angle in here. I’d already bought in on Randle in two drafts as a potential Ninja. Manning’s thrown for at least 4,000 yards in three straight seasons, so the potential for numbers and big plays are there. The current timetable has Nicks coming back at the end of training camp, so I’m loathe to move him in my rankings just now. Obviously, I’ll be monitoring his progress along the way.
