PTC: Harmon’s Blog 530 W/ Fantasy Baseball, Football & A Human Centipede

SwollenDome Baseball

We’re hitting up the blogosphere with multiple posts and dominating the earholes of America with a podcast DAILY. Here’s the “Painting The Corner” blog for 530.

  • Matt Kemp’s struggles at the plate in 2013 have been well-chronicled. The Dodgers are awaiting word on Kemp’s hamstring after the center fielder left Wednesday’s game.
  • LeBron James was fined $5K for flopping in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. He and David West both auditioned for James Lipton and “The Actors Studio” that night. And that’s about as much as I care to comment on this topic.
  • Cubs catcher Dioner Navarro was once a touted prospect in the New York Yankees organization before making stops in Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, a return to LA and Cincinnati. Navarro had never hit more than nine home runs in a season (2007). Navarro ripped three home runs in the Cubs’ 9-3 win over the White Sox.
  • Ryan Zimmerman matched Navarro’s home run barrage with three home runs of his own against the Orioles. Zimmerman’s hit safely in nine of his past 10 games to raise his batting average to .298.
  • The Angels welcomed Jered Weaver back to the mound against the Dodgers. Weaver allowed one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts in his first start since April 7th.
  • His home run barrage matched the two-week total posted by the Kansas City Royals. As a result, Hall of Famer George Brett has been tabbed as the team’s new hitting coach.
  • I thought I’d pique your Fantasy Football curiosity here. DallasCowboys.com writer Jonathan Bales penned a column to extol the virtues of DeMarco Murray and to convince you that he’s primed for a breakthrough year.
  • I saw a couple of Tweets about an interesting bit of trivia concerning Brewers starter Kyle Lohse early Thursday morning. Here’s the source, Chris Jaffe of “The Hardball Times,” on Lohse’s opportunity to become the 13th pitcher to defeat all 30 MLB teams.
  • I’ve had a hole in my fantasy outfield since Angel Pagan rounded third base on that inside-the-park home run. He’s been out of the San Francisco lineup, received a cortisone shot and may need a spot on the disabled list, per Andrew Baggarly of CSN.
  • Back to Fantasy Football for a moment. My preliminary rankings for 2013 are being unleashed on Friday. Where will Steven Jackson of the Falcons rank among running backs?
  • Finally, I add a bit of pop culture/entertainment news to the list. Eric Roberts has signed on to be part of the cast of “The Human Centipede 3.”
