Zeroes A First in Colorado: Shutout Tuesday
On Tuesday, the Colorado Rockies organization celebrated an historic occurrence. The Rockies and the Sky Sox (Triple-A) both registered home shutouts on the same day. The fact was Tweeted by Sky Sox PR (@SkySoxGameDay).
Let’s start in the minors.
The Sky Sox cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Iowa Cubs, a team that ironically evokes images of their big-league counterparts. Tyler Chatwood went the distance for Colorado, surrendering just four hits with eight strikeouts and zero walks. The 23-year-old righty lowered his season ERA to 1.14.
Meanwhile, Jorge De La Rosa combined with three relievers to shut out the Yankees. The surprising Yankees wasted a fantastic outing from Hiroki Kuroda, who limited the Rockies to two earned runs on seven hits and a walk. Carlos Gonzalez accounted for the only offense with his two-run home runs. Ichiro Suzuki stole two bases in the loss.
