Jagr Returns to Pennsylvania: With the Flyers
For the past week, there have been several stories floating about regarding the likely return of scoring machine Jaromir Jagr to the NHL. Jagr has played the past three seasons for the Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. He’ll return as the NHL’s active leader in goals (646) and points (1,599).
Of course, all signs pointed to Jagr putting on his old Pittsburgh sweater and skating with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Fans were already dreaming of the return of the big hair (and no doubt, the sale of Jagr wigs a la the Dodgers’ profitable venture into Manny Ramirez wigs a few years back) when word came down that Jagr decided to ink a deal with the Flyers.
Ultimately, the Penguins were not in a position to bid for his services and perhaps ventured that his desire to return to the NHL was really a desire to return “home.” The fact that his agent, Petr Svoboda, played for the Flyers probably didn’t help those discussions.
Count me among those curious to see what the 39-year old Jagr has left in the tank.
