New Mannequins At A Swedish H&M Generate Controversy

A large clothing store in Sweden is drawing attention for a change in the mannequins used at the store. Like fashion magazines and print ads, clothing store mannequins have drawn criticism for failing to reflect reality. That is to say, the clothes being draped fail to speak to and reflect the body types of the potential consumers. I have to wonder what the sales figures looked like and trends related to purchasing and returns to push for the adjustment.

The change certainly hasn’t been lost on consumers.

From the Yahoo! Shine report: “As of Thursday, the photo had garnered almost 50,000 likes and shared almost 15,000 times. That’s a lot of attention for a hunk of fiber glass and plastic.”

H&M moves toward reality with new mannequins .
